Network Security Part II: Viruses and Updates

Yesterday, we published the first part in our series on network security. If you missed it, you can still read it here. We talked about how most businesses think they’re safe from hackers, but are really not. Today, we’ll talk about two quick ways that hackers can use to get into your computers and network. As always, if you want the full e-book on how to keep your computers and network safe, you can download it here.

The first is viruses. Technically speaking, a virus is any piece of code that runs without your permission. But virtually all viruses have a malicious intent, and are therefore called malware. Hackers can deliver the malware to your computer through many different ways, but the most common is email scams or infected websites. It’s important to have working business-grade antivirus on your computers and run regular scans.

The second way we’ll discuss is Windows Updates and security patches. For a full explanation of how those work, download our free e-book here. If Windows updates aren’t installed regularly , hackers can sneak in the back door and steal your files.

That’s it for today. If you want the rest of the e-book, get it here. Otherwise, like our Facebook page to catch the next part of the series.
