Google just announced the release of its highly-anticipated Pixel 2 smartphone, after months of speculation on product design and features. The Pixel 2 is the sequel to Google’s first smartphone, the original Pixel. These phones run on the Android operating system, and are designed to compete with the Samsung Galaxy line of phones, as well as iPhones.
One of the biggest changes with the Pixel 2 is the elimination of the headphone jack – something that Apple pioneered with the iPhone 7. To counter this change, Google also released the Pixel Buds, a set of wireless headphones with several cool features – including the ability to translate over 40 languages in real time.
The Pixel 2 has a 5-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 AMOLED screen, and the Pixel XL 2 has a curved 6-inch, 2,880 x 1,440 pOLED display. The XL2 screen is designed to be sharper and clearer than the Pixel 2. Both models come with either 64GB or 128GB of built in storage.
If you’re excited about getting your hands on one of these new smartphones, well, you’ll have to be patient for a bit. The Pixel 2 won’t be released until October 19, and the Pixel 2 XL will be released almost a month later, on November 15. The phones will retail for $649 for the 64 GB Pixel 2, and $849 for the Pixel XL 2.
